What we like

  • Full Roku 4K HDR streaming built in
  • Dialogue clarity modes genuinely improve speech
  • Much bigger sound than TV speakers despite the size
  • Bluetooth for phone audio
  • Simple one-remote setup over HDMI ARC

What gives us pause

  • Not enough power for large rooms
  • No Dolby Vision (HDR10 only)
  • No dedicated subwoofer (Roku sells one separately)
  • Dialogue modes add a slight processed character

Who it's for

Bedroom, den and apartment TVs where the built-in speakers mumble. Also a smart way to make an older 'dumb' TV smart and better-sounding in one purchase. Home theater buyers with big rooms should look at a full-size soundbar instead.

Sound quality

Four drivers in a 14-inch bar won't shake walls, but dialogue comes through clearly at volumes that won't wake the house. The speech-clarity and night modes in the settings are the stars: one lifts voices, the other tamps down explosions.

Streaming

Inside is essentially a Roku Streaming Stick+ — 4K and HDR10 with the same neutral interface and app library. Note the absence of Dolby Vision; if your TV and services lean on Dolby Vision heavily, the Streambar Pro or a separate stick is the better path.

Setup

One HDMI cable to the TV's ARC port, one power cord, and the Roku activation flow. The included remote runs both the streaming and your TV's volume. Total time from box to streaming: about fifteen minutes.

Growing the system

The Streambar pairs wirelessly with Roku's subwoofer and rear speakers later. Starting with the bar and adding pieces over time is a reasonable path to a full system.
